This is your Northwest report for Friday September 30, Im'm David Sparks and what about Roundup. Zen Honeycutt, the proactively anti-GMO activist is founder of Moms Across America spoke to farmers who she believes have been duped by the chemical industries and tainted science. "I truly appreciate that you are trying to grow food the best way you know how with the best tools that you have and I simply believe that you have been lied to about the health impacts of these chemicals for many many years. I urge you to all look at the studies which do show harm and then to ask yourself which side of history do you want to be on. I understand that you want to believe these so-called safety studies that show that GMO's and glyphosate are not harmful but the fact is these are the same people who made DDT and PCB's and agent orange and who just want to make money. They simply have marketed in a way that made it very appealing to use." Now, from Agripulse, Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup weedkiller and the most widely used herbicide in the world, "is unlikely to pose a carcinogenic risk to humans," a new study by a panel of scientists has found. Glyphosate manufacturer Monsanto commissioned the study from Intertek Scientific & Regulatory Consultancy in Canada, which assembled the 15-member panel. Monsanto undertook the effort to respond to a 2015 report from the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) that found glyphosate probably causes cancer in humans.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says America needs to step up in the world trade market, but a lame duck vote on the Trans-Pacific Partnership might not accomplish that goal. The Kentucky Republican said America needs to work its way back into the trading business, however he doesn't see TPP being the right way to do that right now. Bringing up the agreement before the end of the year could be damaging to America's trade ambitions.
