Cattle Barons

Cattle Barons

I’m KayDee Gilkey and welcome to Open Range. Here’s Greg with today’s report.

Thanks KayDee. The Pendleton Cattle Baron’s Weekend is right around the corner, May 9th through the 11th and Pat Beard talks about how Cattle Baron’s came about.

BEARD: It was a group of people here in Pendleton. Pat Kennedy and Jeanie Daily that actually had the idea. It really started out as a bull sale idea. It grew into a gelding sale, a kind of a ranch rodeo if you will. A stock sale, a bronc riding, a team branding and then a western trade show and it keeps growing. We keep adding things to it each year.

Bottom line Beard says is they wanted to honor the farming and ranching heritage in the Pendleton area as well a bring more people to Pendleton. But besides being a fun event for the whole family Beard says proceeds go to a good cause.

BEARD: The net proceeds of the event create scholarships for young people going into agricultural pursuits and that’s the bottom line for us. That’s what this event is about, to do good things for Pendleton and to create scholarships for kids that are going to be on the front line for agriculture. I would encourage anyone that is in high school or is currently in college to talk to their instructor or go to cattlebarons.net and connect with us there to apply for the scholarship

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
