New Angus Ambassador from the West

The National Junior Angus Association announces Cassandra Garcia, a Washington state native as the 2016-2017 Angus Ambassador. She is serving a one-year term as a spokesperson for the organization's nearly 6,000 junior members at cattle industry events across the United States and Canada.

A junior at the University of Washington studying business administration, Garcia shares more details about her role as Angus Ambassador.

Garcia: "The role is new, I'm only the fifth Angus Ambassador so for me I want to bridge the gap between consumers and producers. As well as share my experience with producers who can't maybe make it to all the Angus events. I just want to expand knowledge and share my experience with everyone. Really represent this breed for what it is."

Garcia is working to forming a new student organization, Agriculture Council, at the University of Washington to build awareness within the predominantly urban demographic. Through the organization, she hopes to connect with consumers and students to bridge the consumer-producer gap. She says one of her goals is

Garcia: "Advocating everyday for the beef industry. Only 25 percent of consumers agree that animals are treated humanely here in the U.S. So that is a statistic that I'm working to change and I can do that by advocating through the student organization on my campus."
