WCA's Bull Test and Sale

WCA's Bull Test and Sale

For nearly 24 years the Washington Cattlemen’s Association has sponsored a multi-breed bull test and sale. As WCA’s Executive Vice President Jack Field explains,
Field: “Well we are looking for a few good bulls from purebred breeders from around the tri-state area. We’ll have consigners from here in Washington, as well as Oregon and Idaho. We’ll be putting bulls on test that range in age from January 1st to the 31st of March — those are 2016 calves. We receive the cattle on October 21st and they go on test November 1st. They are on a 120-day gain test and at the end of the test which is the be on the first of March —they will be weighed off the test. Then we go ahead and rank those bulls by index based on average daily gain and their weight-per-day of age. Bulls that have a passing breeding soundness exam will be eligible — the top 70 percent of the bulls will be eligible for the sale. The sale will be held on March 22nd at 1 p.m.”
There is a great selection of multiple breeds at this sale — Angus, Red Angus, both horned and polled Hereford, Simmental and Sim-Angus will be available. As a purebred Angus breeder with a small herd, I know I appreciate the opportunity to bring my bulls to this test and sale. I’ve sold several bulls with good success at this sale.
