4-28 SS Rob's Turkey's 2

The results of Rob Mayfield’s unconventional turkey hunt.

Yesterday we heard from Rob that he and his uncle hunted turkey like big game: scope and stalk. They went out with some friends and while the friends were hunkered down behind blinds with camo, decoys and calls, Rob and his uncle  were hiding in some brush where they knew a couple of Tom’s were hanging out. Here’s Rob with the story: “The bigger of the two was coming right at us. We could not see the other one which was just a little bit smaller. They were coming and I said to him just let them keep on coming. They came in and the big Tom got a little skittish. He didn’t know that we were there but he knew something was up. He was 35 yards away, my uncle was right on him and I said you better go. He let an arrow fly but the way that he was leaning out around the shrub, it kind of pulled his arrow to the left. I was laying down in the grass and looked to me as though he had hit the turkey right in the middle. But as soon as he shot, that Turkey jumped up and flew. I sat up with my shotgun and the other turkey didn’t know what was going on. So when he put his head up I  dropped him.

I don’t mean to be disrespectful. But when I first went turkey hunting, I felt like it was a religious experience. Up at four in the morning, camo from head to toe, blinds, Turkey calls, don’t move a muscle. Call in the Tom’s wait, wait, wait. We got birds but oh brother, the preparation.
