5-6 SS Youth

In what is becoming a springtime tradition; area sporting groups will once again be joining with Department of Fish & Game to host a Youth Outdoor Skills Day on Saturday, May 7th, at Beaver Dick Park on Highway 33. The entire event is free and open to the whole family.  Registration begins at 9 AM and ends at 2 PM.

Michael Shropshire is a Fish and Game official who is helping to arrange the event there will be lots of activities are there for kids: “There are all kinds of local sportsmen’s groups coming together to try to share their love and enjoyment of outdoor activities with the public. Fish and game is just trying to facilitate this gathering and the neat part is that it is free, it is open to everyone, and folks will have a chance to try all kinds of outdoor activities from Duck and Turkey calling to shooting pellet guns, bows and arrows and even muzzle loaders. It’s a good chance to see all about a sport that you may be interested in, and these folks will be able to talk to you about coming out and enjoying the outdoors with their groups. Again a great opportunity for folks who have possibly lost touch with the outdoors and learn about some of the fun things we have to offer.” But are kids interested in the outdoors anymore? “Right now we are experiencing something that is not official as far as being a disorder but it is called the nature deficit disorder, NDD,  and what that basically says is that kids are not spending enough time outdoors.
