5-26 SS Exciting Wolf Hunt

5-26 SS Exciting Wolf Hunt

All the buzz in Idaho is still about the upcoming wolf hunt this fall. And it doesn’t make any difference where you live in the Northwest or in the country for that matter. An opportunity to harvest a wolf is something pretty exciting for a lot of outdoorsmen. Right now they cost $11.50 for resident hunters and $186 for non-residents. You can buy those tags at any fish and game vendor, we have over 300 throughout the state.

I asked Fish and Game spokesperson  if an open wolf hunt might endanger the population. No we are estimating the population to be around 1000  state wide, give or take a few, and we are putting that information together right now and we will present that to the commission when they meet in Lewiston and the commission will then tell us what they want us to do in terms of staging the hunt. Keep in mind that when we did this in 2009 we had a highly orderly hunt, we harvested 188 wolves, there was a 220 harvest limit placed on them so we harvested 85% of that limit and only had two violations state wide. So hunters conducted themselves very professionally and we thought it went very well we proved that we could manage wolves responsibly and we will do that again this fall. And you will be in the good graces of our fine governor. We always like to be in the good graces of the governor.
