5-30 SS Pigeon Hunting

5-30 SS Pigeon Hunting

We’re going pigeon hunting with Neal Hunt, owner of the Soar No More Wing Shooting Company. He has found a nifty way to tune up your shooting skills for upcoming bird seasons or, more importantly, teaching your kids how to shoot using live birds.  So what are we talking here? Going after game birds where you need a license? No. How about using the bane of a lot of farmers’ existence. Shooting pigeons that  roost in barnes, eat grain, and whitewash everything from here to kingdom come. “People don’t realize exactly what pigeon hunting is. People think that pigeon hunting is going and scaring them out of the barn and shooting them as they come out or paying big bucks to go to Argentina. The idea came  from when a buddy and I would go out to a good friend of his who owned a feedlot out in Nampa and we used to go and shoot the blackbirds, the starlings, and the pigeons out on his feedlot to get rid of them. After we would shoot some of the pigeons other pigeons would come over and they would circle around and actually decoy into the dead pigeons. So we started going out just for pigeon hunting once we realized that pigeons would decoy into other pigeons. And we used to set them up every morning and when the pigeons would get up they would all decoy and we turned it into a little hobby and a sport to go out and go pigeon hunting.

So if you’re planning a duck hunting trip or you’re going goose hunting this is a great way to tune up. It’s also an inexpensive way to teach your kids to bird hunt.
