5-31 SS Craig Hettinger

Hey everybody, this is David Sparks. Welcome to Sportsmen’s Spotlight.  I want to talk a minute about a dream job. Imagine the joy of working at something that you call your passion. Back in a moment. Red’s Fly Shop  can be found in Ellensburg, Washington. Craig Hettinger is the shop guy at Red’s and has a great story about how he got his job: “I am kind of the shop guy. They found me on the river I’m a steelhead fishermen.  So I spent most of my time fishing and I ran out of money and had to go back to work and what better place than the fly shop? I live within 20 miles so I knew about the shop. But I retired after I turned 50 after having been a production manager for 120+ people and when I ran out of money at 60 I went back to work. Tell me more about how you landed this job. I see these guys setting up a wall tent camp. I said wow what’s going on I mean we have a lot of guys down here already and now were getting for wall tents set up. I went over to talk to them and they were from Red’s and they’re running a wall tenant every fall for their steelhead clients. So we just started talking and this was in ’06  and they were looking for employees last year so I applied and got the job and here I sit. So flyfishing being a hobby and here you are working in a flyfishing shop, it’s hard to call that a job. Exactly… exactly.
