7-1 SS Rushing Rivers

7-1 SS Rushing Rivers

Making lemons out of lemonade… as it relates to fishing. That’s a mystery but I’m going to clear up in just a minute.

Things are settling down right now as it relates to high, dangerous, rushing rivers and trying to fish them. But I had a conversation the other day with our, as you all know now, brilliant expert on the fishing of all kinds, Mr. Josh Mills. While talking about the raging water problem that has existed in much of the Northwest the spring, Josh came up with some wonderful alternatives that can work anytime. Here he is. “In the period of high runoff a lot of your options are out there just flooded because they are in runoff stage. That gives you two options. One is lakes which we have detailed in the past but the other thing is that you can head for the tail waters. Tail waters are defined as a dam with the river and controlled flow that keeps it with a relative calm her flow level for most of the year. Also tail waters have a tendency to create extra good food sources for trout and whatever is behind them. So places like the Missouri River over in Montana, the Big Horn is also a tail water and a lot of these are really famous places. If you are hating lakes get over to a tail water and admittedly you will have a few more crowds but at the same time you will still be able to fish flowing water while the rest of us are staring at a lake.
