MATT SCHUBERT writes an  outdoors column for the Peninsula Daily News up in Washington state. In a recent article the headline read: Kings rule out on West End. The article continues "There’s more than enough kings to make things interesting  and a local resort owner states that  this has been the best king bite of the year so far  and proclaims 'Excellent king fishing . . . just really good; a lot of fish, a lot of big fish.'"  Rather than listen to me keep quoting the words coming from Van Riper’s Resort owner Chris Mohr, let’s listen directly to him: “Right now the Chinook opportunity is excellent. The other species that we catch here on a regular basis are Coho and the pinks. The pinks run is just kicking into third gear on a five gear scale, so we are catching a lot of pink and with the run that is forecast this year, it’s the tip of the iceberg. As far as the Coho which a lot of people call Silvers we have had moderate success. We see the bulk of those fish in mid-August through September when they seem to be at their peak here in Sekiu. But right now Chinook or King fishing is as good as you’re going to see in this area and there are a lot of limits anywhere from 15 to 30 pounds. It’s a good fishery right now that’s for sure. I think there is a forecast run of nearly 20,000,000 for the Pink and that is going to really turn on in the middle of August."
