11-1 SS Kid Hunters

11-1 SS Kid Hunters

Hey son or daughter, would you like to go hunting with me? I don’t know Dad, I’d rather go to Facebook and connect with my friends.

With the world of electronics, computers, video games, etc., it gets a little tough to motivate your children to get out there in the great outdoors with you. I talked with with Peter Flohr from Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee, Washington recently and he has a more encouraging take. “Did I understand that you are going to be having a duck calling clinic for kids at the store? Well we had a little youth duck hunting competition, put it together and handed out duck calls at our Wenatchee store last March, I was hoping to have 10 or 15 kids show up, but all you were my 2,  so they just competed with each other and we had fun,  I didn’t do enough promotion on it, I was a little disappointed. Is there decreasing or increasing interest on the part of kids these days in terms of hunting and fishing? There are a lot of kids who are into it. Kids whose parents are into it, are into it with them. It seems to me that you can only do so many things with kids in a day or a weekend right, if your kids are into baseball then there goes your spring right, and if they are really into it and there goes your summer. I’m not saying that’s right or wrong. As far as I am concerned getting out and getting it on is a good thing to do. If anything I think kids involvement in hunting and fishing is growing.
