11-8 SS Listen and Learn

It’s as basic as 1, 2, 3… or make that readin’,  writin’ and ‘rithmatic. Don’t be confused, as I just said it’s basic.

One of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to almost anything in the outdoors but certainly and particularly fishing is our ubiquitous and frequent guest, Mr. Josh Mills. So how did Josh become so knowledgeable? Some of the key components are interest, passion, work ethic and a humility that is demonstrated by a willingness to listen.  “The worst thing that a fisherman can do is assume that he knows everything. I try to stay as humble as possible and I think the guy that talks the most and says that he knows the most is the one who stops learning and doesn’t do a good job in actually paying attention to what you can learn. Some of the best fishermen are some of the most humble folks who just watch and watch and listen. Without that you are going to get stuck in the technique that you know at the time. You might do it well but there is a whole other way to do it. One of the things that I have noticed from guides is that every year something is different. Every year something is new. There is some sort of innovation that they have applied their time on the water to in learning. That’s the stuff that I really crave to learn. One of the things you can do if you hire a guide is to be as open and accepting as possible.
