11-10 SS Patriotic Deer

How can a deer hunting story be patriotic and touching?

Talk about an accomplished guy. Excellent hunter and fisherman, all-around outdoorsman and executive chef Randy King had a recent experience that I will let you listen in on. “This past rifle season we go up to this one unit which is a very restrictive unit, 2 points only, it is easily accessible and we had a very special guest. His name is Paul and he has served in the armed forces for 37 years and has never killed a deer until this past October. We were fortunate enough to get him up there with my dad, my best man from my wedding and myself and take him hunting. He ended up with the 1st buck of his life in kind of a harrowing experience for him, getting charged by a buck, but having a guy who has served for so long and getting a chance to take him hunting, this is a guy who is aging out of the military in a year and a half, not retiring, so we had a very cool experience by treating somebody to such a nice experience, somebody who has helped out the country for so long, it was really rewarding for us. It will probably be rewarding in several aspects.  Not only will Paul enjoy the fact that he harvested a deer, he will probably enjoy eating venison that Randy has shown him how to prepare. Randy writes a  regular column in Northwest Sportsman’s Magazine on how to cook wild game.
