11-11 SS Turkey Calls

Hey turkey hunters. What’s your philosophical stance when it comes to calling in Tom’s? Today we’re going to be talking with old friend and expert hunter Gabe Rostberg about calling turkeys in. But it’s as much a philosophy as it is a technique. “The old keep it simple stupid is the key to calling in turkeys I think. Start off and do what has worked before. If you find something that works for turkeys or any other animal, it will usually continue to work as far as if you find turkeys in an area. You can probably come back time after time and get turkeys to come in in that same area. That applies to time of day. As far as calling, you do not have to be a championship caller to call in a turkey. If you are on a mountain, turkeys are more inclined to come in if you are above them on the mountain. That is because their natural defense for a predator that is after them is to pitch off the side of the hill and fly down. If you are above them you are more on a comfort level. As far as calling, keep it simple with a yelp, yelp, yelp really soft and then a yelp, yelp, purr. Then shut up. Don’t over call.

Interesting that the rules for calling in turkeys apply to life in general with humans. Keep it simple and don’t talk too much.
