Dave Holbrook, owner of Rocking H Outfitters In Colorado has traveled the world as a guide and a hunter. He has been to Africa and taken a cape buffalo, a lion, zebras and black panthers. You would think with that kind of experience, nothing could rattle him. Hold that thought. A trip to Alaska hunting brown bears trumped all of his other experiences. The story begins with Dave and his guide. "My guide tapped my shoulder and says Dave there's your brown bear right down there. The bear was lying on top of a dead moose. It must have been a winter kill from the ice. The bear was lying on top of it to protect it. After a while, we decided to make a stalk on this bear. We were laying on our bellies and I took a good aim, I was using a .338 at that time and I shot. The bear got up and started growling and grabbing himself where he had been shot and came right at us. I shot again. It rolled him over. But he got up again and kept on coming. I told my guide, I have 2 more rounds. When they are gone, start shooting because he is going to eat us. My guide said don't worry because I will. The 3rd shot was a head-on shot. It went straight in and did the job. That bear kept coming and fell 25 yards in front of us. It was so emotional, exciting and scary. A 10 foot brown bear that weighs 1200 pounds coming after you like that and there is no way you can out run him whether he is shot or not. You are right there and at the mercy of the bear. Of all of my hunt, it is the most exciting hunt of my lifetime."
