Ever wonder why some parts of the river hold steelhead and some don't? Or why some fish swim to the sea and become steelhead and some stay in freshwater to grow up as rainbow trout? Or how many steelhead spawn repeatedly?

Answer all those questions and more as the Wild Steelheaders United and Trout Unlimited host the first ever Wild Steelhead Science Workshop for Anglers, May 9 at the University of Washington in Seattle.

John McMillan, science director for Trout Unlimited's Wild Steelhead Initiative told me "Steelhead are one of those mysterious creatures that, in his experience as an angler, the more you fish for them, the more questions they bring to mind. The purpose of Steelhead Science for Anglers Workshop is to inform anglers about the state of the science regarding steelhead issues most relevant to their angling opportunity and experience, and to provide an opportunity for anglers to share their insights with, and ask questions of the scientists. Some of the very best scientists have been selected to present because they are not only experts on their topic of interest, but also because they are anglers who enjoy fishing for steelhead."
