Hunting Rifles For Your Kids First Hunt

A friend of mine called me and is looking for a rifle for his kid for his first hunt. Personally my recommendation would be to start your kid off with a .243 or 6mm. Those are very flat shooting rounds with very little recoil. Well I think we should get a second opinion, so I called up Dirk, a very knowledgeable gun enthusiast.

Dirk, "a .243 a great starting caliber, it's going to take any deer that you're going to find, It's not going to be ideal for Elk but it's great for deer. After that you start getting up into 308 and if he doesn't have much experience he might start getting kicked by it and start flinching, but .243 don't kick that much. The .243 cartage is based on the .308 but necked down to a .243 caliber. The .270 case is significantly longer with much more powder so it kicks more."

What models do you recommend? Remington, Tikka, Browning, Howa, savage, Winchester.
