I'm Susan Allen and thrilled to be guest hosting Sportsman's Spotlight for Matt, who's on his honeymoon and Tom whose out deer hunting because I get this opportunity to introduce you to a program that uses fly fishing to change lives. Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings, On their website you'll hear the story of Iraq War Veteran Randall Steiger who struggled to transition to civilian life, and how with the help of mentors he found solace in fly fishing.

STEIGER: The VA gave me a call and said how would you like to go fishing? I'm 30 years old I had never caught a fish in my life. I said all right; I will go check it out. On that trip, I ended up catching the first fish of my life that ended up being the biggest fish of the day

And it's much more than a one-day fishing trip; these mentors are there on a long-term basis.

STEIGER Everything we do, building rods, tying flies, meeting, practicing, the drive to where we are going to stay, waiting to get on that water
