What with wild turkey season upon us, I turned to Sportsmen's Warehouse Sales Associate Al Strup. "I've had a lot of turkey in the past. Tell me what would your preference be in terms of calling them. I have used a multitude of mouth calls and slates and box calls. I have used everything. Any more luck with one than the other? I prefer mouth calls. Here's a many stories about turkeys being difficult to get because of their keen senses, hearing, vision. Advice? You have to have great camouflage. If they see movement, they're gone. It's that simple. You gotta be a great caller and as close to invisible as you can be. You also want to have good decoys on the ground. They need to be as a real looking as you can possibly get. They are a lot better than they were back in my day. Do you sell them at sportsman's warehouse? I have three or four different kinds... Hens, Jakes, full-size male gobblers. Different manufacturers. Some are more realistic than others. We have foam, collapsible, some you fill with air. I also have calls. I have the whole 9 yards.
