Washington state outfitter Mike Jenkins has an interesting sideline and you may want to keep your dance card open if you hear about him appearing at a local Cabela's. "Several years ago, I was big into the elk calling competitions and I used to travel around to do the sports shows and enter the calling competitions. The only part that stopped me was that I was chicken to get up on the stage in front of a bunch of people. So I started doing seminars. I started out at the local Sportsman's Warehouse and built my way up until I could talk in front of a crowd. I contacted Cabela's and they picked me up and started flying me around to different stores throughout the Western region to give seminars. They approached me about five years ago and said that they would like me to send in a resume for their pro-staff. So I turned in a resume and they had 3500 people submit resumes and they chose me for their Western region. When you give a seminar is it on elk calling alone? No. I have multiple topics that I do. Everything from calling bears to choosing an outfitter to applying for out of state tags and then of course, my elk ones are probably my most popular but, I have a huge range of topics that I do.
