Sharpshooter/hunter, Ken Mills, is from the Bay Area in California. Even though he's a California boy, every spring he makes the trek to Lincoln County, Idaho, a place where he loves to be. I asked him what attracted him to come all this way. " Rock chucks. And I like the people to. I really get along with most of the people up here real well. But I do come for the rock chuck shoot." I asked if he considered himself a sharpshooter. "I'd like to think so." How did you get started in your quest to kill rock chuck's? "I used to hunt them down in northern California and one time my neighbor's wife bought him a float trip down the South fork of the Snake River and the guy that did the float trip was Fred Hughes. So we shot a few rock chucks over there before the float trip started and he told us that we would come back. That was in 1996. He said we will come back next year. Then he says meet me in Shoshone and he says I'll take you out and show you where the rock chucks are at. So that's what happened. That's the way I got into it out here." I understand that you have kept a record of what you've done here. What's in that book? " Well, right now, as of yesterday, I had 452 chucks in five days of hunting. We have added another 17 chucks this morning. And we will be hunting later this afternoon." Considering the fact that he can hit these small varmints from as far away as 300 yards... Yup... He's a sharpshooter.
