Fishing guide Patrick Kissel and his adventuresome new girlfriend decided to float a river up near Fairbanks, Alaska in search of Kings but he soon learned it wasn’t as easy a trip as he thought it would be. “I got this little 8 foot Watercrafter raft and the 1st mile was just all rocks. Hardly any water and I don’t think we floated at all in the 1st mile. I thought that there would be some tributaries so I kept saying, it’s going to be good. Will get this float done and will get to some water soon. It was supposed to be a 15 to 16 mile float. It must’ve been 8 o’clock at night and I looked at the GPS and we had only gone about 2 1/2 miles. We were dragging this raft over rocks and beaver dams. She was walking and dragging, I was walking. We fished once that night and caught a bunch of Grayling’s, caught some rainbows, didn’t see any kings yet. Finally, at midnight, we thought we had to get some sleep so we turned the raft over and slept on it for two hours. It rained on us. Woke up the next day and kept dragging. At that time we were taking turns. She’d be sleeping I’d be dragging and I’d be sleeping and she would be dragging. Keep in mind I had only met this girl three weeks earlier so I didn’t know her that well but knew she was up for adventure.
