Idaho Wheat Commission researcher Kathy Wilson explains why her organization donated $2 million to a U of I program designed to research and teach risk management skills. “One of our strategic objectives is to raise up the next generation of agricultural professionals. Nothing better than to have this unique program that would be a destination program for not just interested students but also interested faculty and post docs who would want to focus in this area and it would be the only place in the country where you could do it. Our mission is to invest the assessment dollars into market development, research and education. I have always been focused on plant research. Certainly the research they would be able to do in terms of responding to this globalization and ever-changing world of how to manage risk that you have in commodities would be really beneficial.
