Skin in the game

A couple of years ago I did an interview with wolf advocate Suzanne Asha Stone and here's what she said: “I felt this was something that really needed to be brought out to the public and let people make up their own minds about how to manage wolves and whether to bring them back. This should be based on reality and not just superstition and fairy tales.” So a recent proposal by a Northeast based Washington politician wants to take Suzanne’s advice and let people make up their own minds. In response to one of Western Washington lawmaker's recent bill to completely ban the lethal removal of gray wolves, Washington state Rep. Joel Kretz is proposing legislation to create a wolf sanctuary in Rep. Sherry Appleton’s legislative district on Bainbridge Island. Kretz said “It always amazes me when legislators with no skin in the game, who live hundreds of miles away surrounded and protected by water, have the gall and gumption to dictate how the rest of us can or cannot protect ourselves, our loved ones and our animals.” Enjoying a latte at Starbucks on Bainbridge Island, if a wolf walks up, this Bainbridger will get to know the true meaning of putting skin in the game.
