Scoot and Shoot

In a conversation with Colin Kearns, Senior Deputy Editor of Field & Stream, he told me about an article in his magazine that described a method of calling in wild turkeys where they actually just came running in to the caller looking for a fight. I discussed that with Sportsmen's Spotlight colleague Tommy Allen and he sent me a link to a YouTube video where a turkey hunter, using only a pistol in South Florida, tried a method called scoot and shoot where hunters are trying to get the bird to run right at them using a big decoy and a call. In the video, the hunter gets the bird to come in as close as 2 feet whereupon he shoots him with a pistol.. I watched the video and I was stunned. Listen to the reaction of the hunters.

"Unbelievable dude. Just a few steps. That's a store." Historic indeed. The Tom just came up face-to-face and stared at the decoy. The hunter jumps out and shoots. And in all my years of talking to turkey hunters the've have be quiet, be camouflaged, and you're lucky if you get.
