Agribusiness Update For Friday 2/1/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I’m Greg Martin...

Two Senators have introduced legislation to eliminate a burdensome, costly and redundant Environmental Protection Agency permit requirement for applications of pesticides. Mike Johanns and Pat Roberts say the agenda the Administration’s EPA is pushing amounts to more red tape, more roadblocks and more needless headaches.

United Egg Producers and The Humane Society of the United States expect legislation that would establish a national standard for hen housing will be introduced in Congress soon. Oregon Representative Kurt Schrader is expected to sponsor the measure in the House - with California’s Diane Feinstein expected to sponsor the Senate bill.

the National Rifle Association says it has no intention of backing away from its stalwart defense of gun ownership. Indeed, the organization's leaders think it's a battle they'll win despite new proposed gun restrictions. The group has been lobbying against a bill introduced by California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein that would require background checks at private gun shows and restrict access to some firearms.

That’s today’s Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
