Agribusiness Update for Wednesday 7/10/13

We mentioned an effort on Capital Hill last week to split the Food, Farms and Job act into two. That has not been met with much enthusiasm as many groups are speaking out against it. Before the 4th of July holiday - a coalition of more than 530 groups sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner urging him to bring the farm bill back to the floor as soon as possible and not to split it into two.

Syngenta has introduced an online training module to teach corn, soybean and cereal growers how to make in-season plant stresses more manageable with Quilt Xcel fungicide. The tutorial features a 15-minute interactive presentation demonstrating the benefits the fungicide provides corn and cereal crops - followed by a short quiz to test the participant’s knowledge on the content.

NW Farm Credit Services quarterly market snapshot shows that rain in May and June helped some Northwest agricultural producers and hurt others. Rains provided dryland wheat growers a strong boost in yield potential. Cattle producers also saw significant improvement in pasture conditions and better prospects for dryland hay yields. At the same time heavy rain impacted cherry and wine grape producers.
