Agribusiness Update for Thursday 08/29/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin... USDA's Risk Management Agency is reminding producers of the expanded coverage availability for the Forage Seed Pilot Multi-Peril Crop Insurance program to all qualifying producers in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Producers are encouraged to visit with their crop insurance agent by the September 30 to review and sign up if coverage is available in their county. Nine groups were asking a federal court in Washington, D.C. for a preliminary injunction to stop USDA from enforcing its new Country of Origin Labeling law Tuesday. The American Meat Institute was joined by two Canadian livestock producer groups, a Mexican livestock producer group and other domestic organizations in filing suit to block implementation of the rule earlier this summer. The U.S. again is up against the debt limit - with borrowing authority expiring in mid-October. According to the Washington Post - the Obama Administration expects to only have 50-billion-dollars in cash on hand by that time and have no options to borrow more. The Treasury Secretary said that 50-billion would not cover the nation's spending for long. That's today's Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
