Agribusiness Update for Monday 09/02/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin... Today people are honoring the productivity of America's workers. As everyone celebrates this year - Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says Congress has the chance to create an even stronger workforce by reforming the current U.S. immigration system. Vilsack is hopeful Congress will find a way to solve this modern, labor challenge. He says the U.S. has a long history of supporting those who work hard to grow the domestic economy - and Congress can make even more progress by passing common sense immigration reform. It appears reports suggesting top House leadership had settled on a strategy for moving forward on the next farm bill are incorrect. With the current farm bill set to expire September 30th - aides to House Republican leaders say how to proceed is still under consideration. The House approved a farm program-only farm bill before the August recess and is expected to work on a separate nutrition title once members return to Washington. Bruce Willis is showing his appreciation for the firefighters battling the Beaver Creek fire near Sun Valley, Idaho. Willis arranged for catering for 450 firefighters and paid for additional snacks for workers. Willis has several homes in the area and he included a personal message thanking the men and women for their tireless work. That's today's Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
