Agribusiness Update for Friday 09/06/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin... USDA's Risk Management Agency has announced approved harvest prices for the 2013 crop year for revenue protection insurance plans within the Common Crop Insurance Policy for wheat, barley, fall canola, and rapeseed in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. For producers who bought a 2013 crop year Revenue Protection or Revenue Protection with Harvest Price Exclusion policy, the harvest price is used to determine the calculated revenue. Producers should contact their insurance agent. The Government Accountability Office has issued a report that criticizes the way USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service has handled pilot projects that led to a proposed rule to make changes to poultry inspections. Under Secretary for Food Safety Elisabeth Hagen says that will not prompt USDA to withdraw the rule. She points out that the rule is based on more than the pilot projects analyzed by the GAO and adds that this is about public health. President Obama this week reiterated his desire to complete the Trans-Pacific Partnership this year. He said it will boost economic growth and shore up global security. Leaders of all nations involved have agreed on the goal of finishing the talks by the end of the year. Progress was reportedly made during the 19th round of the trade talks - held recently in Brunei. That's today's Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
