Agribusiness Update for Wednesday 10/2/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin...

As of today - more than 579-thousand students in grades seven through 12 are members of the FFA. During the 2012-2013 school year - more than 22-thousand-300 students joined FFA and the number of local FFA chapters across the U.S. grew to seven-thousand-570. FFA CEO Dr. Dwight Armstrong says FFA is preparing youth to ensure the security of the nation's food, fiber and natural resources for years to come.

The United States Cattlemen's Association is pleased to announce a new country of origin labeling defense fundraising campaign for the fall of 2013.  Building on the momentum and success of USCA's "COOL in the Country Tour" held during the summer, this fundraising effort is focused on USCA's continued legal defense of the U.S. country of origin labeling law. 

Members of Congress will continue to be paid during the government shutdown thank to 27th Amendment to the Constitution. It was originally designed to keep Congress from voting pay raised for themselves but also keeps them from taking a pay cut essentially keeping them on the payroll.
