Agribusiness Update for Thursday 10/10/13

The American Petroleum Institute is suing the EPA over the final 2013 Renewable Fuel Standard, saying it requires more cellulosic biofuels than what can be produced. The Renewable Fuels Association's Bob Dinneen called the lawsuit "another frivolous effort by API to abuse the court system in their slavish effort to repeal a public policy that is working for farmers, gasoline marketers, and consumers."

Washington already has the nation's highest minimum wage at $9.19 an hour but now Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn says he would support a minimum wage above $15 an hour saying he thought it was a "fair starting point." McGinn is up for re-election and his challenger has also said he would push for a $15 minimum wage but planned to proceed with a phased-in approach.

Citing a need for animal vaccines - U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has reopened the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Center for Veterinary Biologics. According to a USDA spokesperson - the APHIS shutdown plan outlined that a limited number of agency employees may be required to perform expected activities to protect property, public health and food safety.
