The EPA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers jointly released a proposed rule to clarify protection under the Clean Water Act for streams and wetlands Tuesday. The proposed rule will benefit businesses by increasing efficiency in determining coverage of the Clean Water Act. The agencies are launching a robust outreach effort over the next 90 days - holding discussions around the country and gathering input needed to shape a final rule. According to an EPA press release - the proposed definitions of waters will apply to all Clean Water Act programs.Any agriculture activity that does not result in the discharge of a pollutant to waters of the U.S. still does not require a permit.

A Washington State University food scientist and colleagues at Texas A&M have found that compounds in peaches can inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells and their ability to spread. The researchers say the compounds could be a novel addition to therapies that reduce the risk of metastasis, the primary killer in breast and many other cancers. The compounds could be given as an extract or, judging from the doses given mice in the study, the same benefit of eating two to three peaches a day.

That's today's Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
