Agribusiness Update for Thursday 04/02/15

According to the Prospective Plantings report released on Tuesday - U.S. corn growers intend to plant two-percent less acres to corn - at an estimated 89.2-million acres. Wheat acreage is estimated at 55.4-million acres - winter wheat at 40.8-million acres and sorghum at 7.9-million acres. NASS also released the quarterly Grain Stocks report. As of March 1st - corn stocks are up 11-percent from the same time last year at 7.74-billion bushels. Wheat is up six-percent from 2014 at 1.12-billion bushels and durum wheat is down one-percent from last year at 37.6-million bushels.

USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture announced funding awards totaling nearly $19 million, including more than $6.7 million for antimicrobial resistance strategies, to 36 grantees to ensure a safe and nutritious food supply. Among the recipients were Colorado State & Washington State for Effective Mitigation Strategies for Antimicrobial Resistance and the University of Idaho for Improving Food Quality.
