US Livestock Industry Safe for the Environment

Good news for Monsanto, WSJ reports that Argentina's government resolved a dispute over GMO seed that will now allow biotech companies like Monsanto to collect royalties on crop genes. It is a temporary resolution as the government works through a law that will "preserve the rights of producers and sustainability of the industry" according Argentina Agriculture Minster. UC Davis completed a study that found the U.S. has the most environmentally friendly livestock industry in the world, as measured with scientific fact by its carbon footprint. And as part of comprehensive life-cycle assessment — an assessment of all environmental footprints UC Davis researchers showed that converting farmland to residential land is 70 times more harmful to the environment.
