For the Agribusiness update I'm Susan Allen Friday, Monsanto announced that the European Commission has granted import approval for Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans. Basically this allows for food/feed use of Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans into the European Union. With Chinese approval last February and now the EU, Monsanto said in a press release it will have a full system launch in the U.S. in 2017. And on September 1, 2016, Syngenta will transfer sales and distribution of alfalfa seed to the NEXGROW branded business that is part of Forage Genetics International. The name of the alfalfa seed will remain NEXGROW and the portfolio of varieties offered will stay the same. Current NEXGROW seed treatments will also continue to be available plus all Syngenta alfalfa dealers and seed advisors will have the opportunity to become dealers of NEXGROW alfalfa seed. Finally PURDUE RESEARCHERS DISCOVER a PROCESS that adds up to 7 weeks to milks shelf life. Calling it an add-on to pasteurization due to a a rapid heating and cooling of milk that reduces the amount of harmful bacteria present researchers can extend by several weeks the shelf life of one of the most common refrigerator staples in the world, according to a Purdue University study. Exciting implication of this technology is that it could reduce waste and allow milk to reach distant locations where transport times using only pasteurization would mean that milk would have a short shelf life upon arrival.
