Hi everybody it’s time for your Land and Livestock Report here on the Ag Information Network of the West-I’m Russell Nemetz.

Well, a big issue for U.S. sheep producers continues to be the conflict between domestic sheep and big horn sheep. And as Chase Adams told me recently, it’s a top priority for the American Sheep Industry Association on behalf of its members.

“Absolutely, conflicts between big horn sheep and domestic sheep allotments and habitat have been top of mind for the American Sheep Industry Association. And this was a great opportunity to visit about some of those concerns. A lot of the research we’re seeing shows that a lot of these pathogens are endemic in the big horn sheep herds so really removing the domestic sheep her allotments isn’t going to have the impact policy makers are hoping to have.”

The American Sheep Industry was one of several groups that met recently with California Congressman Ken Calvert who’s the House’s Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Subcommittee Chairman.

That’s your Land and Livestock Report-I’m Russell Nemetz.
