Something to consider if you are a passionate steelhead fisherman. Fishing for fish that have been in the system for a long time, meaning summer run steelhead. When I grew up Learning how to fish for steelhead, I would often go in February and March and do really well. What I have learned is that a lot of these fish coming up the Columbia River the Snake or other places have been in in fresh water since last May. steelhead are going to be spawning in the next couple of months. With us having one of the worst returns in 50 years, I would like anglers to consider impact of maybe leaving these fish alone for the remaining portion of their spawning travel. Spawning will normally occur between February and April so leave them alone and let them do their thing.
