Colorado State University has had a strong meat science program for 30 years.

With the opening of the school's new $20 million JBS Global Food Innovation Center it just got much bigger and more advanced.

Dr. Bob Delmore is a CSU professor in the Department of Animal Sciences.

He says the new 36-thousand square foot facility provides for on-sight research, education, innovation, and industry partnerships and .allows them to do a lot more of what they're good at.

"We've always taught lots of short courses but it allows us to have a different dynamic. So we had a company where we were able to bring the folks in and have a meeting in one of the nice new conference spaces but then also take the folks down into the plant and look at meat carcasses or cuts of meat. We've always done 4H and FFA activities but we were very very very tight on space and we were limited in the types of things we could do."

The center is in honor of Prof Emeritus Gary Smith and Kay Smith
