Tasty Tomatoes

I Was talking with AGGRAND® soil scientist Walt Sandbeck the other day when one of my biggest pet peeves in the world came up. AGGRAND® makes a fertilizer product that activates soil and makes for bigger production of tomatoes. I brought up to him that I hate grocery store tomatoes that are picked green, not vine ripened and basically taste like plastic. "Is there any potential in the future to somehow be able to package vine ripened tomatoes and get them to market? My take is that tomatoes are being produced so that they can be shipped. They have to survive the shipping process. That means they have to make it to the store and still look like a tomato. A vine ripened tomato is not as shippable as the kind that are picked early and shipped and produced with chemical fertilizers that reach production value faster and perhaps more efficiently. With a natural product you end up concentrating all of the natural soil biology and biological forces that will activate the release of nutrients that will actually make a tomato taste good. You are bypassing that biology of the soil, you are bypassing the ability of the tomato to reach its true destination.
