Vegetable Growers Survey & RMA Helping Farm and Ranch Families Succeed

The National Agricultural Statistics Service will be conducting a survey of vegetable growers over the next three months in an effort to acquire accurate and up-to-date information on how they use agricultural chemicals and responsibly manage pests. The NASS Northwest Regional Field office, reports that data from the 2014 Vegetable Chemical Use Survey "will help support the policies and programs that protect the health and safety of agricultural producers, workers, and consumers alike." Data collected in Washington will cover asparagus, processing carrots, sweet corn, dry onions, green peas, and strawberries.

The Western Extension Risk Management Education Center along with the Northeast, North Central and Southern Center have announced a funding opportunity for projects that help farm and ranch families succeed through targeted risk management strategies. Associate Director of the Western Center for Risk Management Education Jo Ann Warner explains.

WARNER: This is an Extension Risk Management Education Competitive Grants Program and we are looking for applications from organizations that work primarily with farmers and ranchers. We're looking at projects that can deal with the business or economic side of risk. We really encourage applications from applicants who directly work with Tribal producers and also Hispanic farmers and ranchers and other special emphasis audiences that would include beginning farmers and ranchers, as well as limited resource farmers.
