POWER UP Your Farm

POWER UP Your Farm

POWER UP Your Farm. I'm Greg Martin with Washington Ag Today.

2016 Women in Agriculture Conference is about a month away and Margaret Viebrock with WSU Douglas County Extension discusses this years conference theme.

VIEBROCK: Registration is open for the 2016 Women In Ag Conference which will be held Saturday, March 19th in 31 locations, in five states which includes Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho and Montana. The theme for this year is "Power Up You Communication; Power Up Your Farm." So whether you're on Facebook or face-to-face it matters how you communicate with others.

She says women in ag tend to have a lot of contacts.

VIEBROCK: Whether they're selling at the farmer's market or whether they're dealing with a lender or dealing with a government agency, it's important to have the right communication skills to help with decision making and motivate people, draw in customers and also get the loan or government program that you need.

The Women In Ag Conference is not your usual conference.

VIEBROCK: We decided to have locations that were a lot closer to women. They didn't have to drive as far, they didn't have to have an overnight. With the 31 locations simultaneously the whole program happens at the same time. We use technology to bring the keynote speakers into each location at the same time.
