Washington Ag February 3, 2005 The Washington Pork Producers, National Pork Board, and Washington State Extension, have organized the 2005 Swine Information Day which is being held tomorrow February 4th at the Red Lion Hotel in Pasco. Swine Information Day, which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00p.m., is designed for progressive pork producers and stakeholders and will address critical and emerging swine production issues in the Pacific Northwest. Swine producers of all sizes; 4-H/FFA youth producers, agency representatives, agriculture educators, and fair/show representatives are invited to participate. National, state and local speakers will address several topics including, alternatives to anitibiotic feed additives, nutraceuticals and enzymes, National Pork Board's Swine Welfare Assurance Programs, Washington Animal Health Program, the ideal hog market and the impact of the show swine industry. As for the economic outlook for hog producers, USDA's chief economist Keith Collins, says producers had a good year in 2004 with average prices of 53 dollars a hundredweight, and;. Collins: " Our forecast for 2005 is for it to pull back a little bit, but only to about $49 a hundredweight." Collins says lower feed prices in 2005 should improve profit margins. I'm Bob Hoff.
