I’m Susan Allen, It is too early to know the livestock and crop loss from the Spokane Beacon Hill Fire that is burning on over 500 acres or the Yale Road Fire that has burned nearly 4000 acres and 10 homes. Spokane County has opened up the fairgrounds so folks can bring in their livestock, horses and pets and I have heard that some horse owners have turned their animals loose to let them run free in hopes they will escape the flames. Here is a fire update from Spokane Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich

Knezovich : Right now the Beacon Hill Fire is pretty much in a mop up stage, the Valley Chapel Fire, (they call it the Yale Road Fire) is still burning and a major concern. Last night fire fighters put a lot of work into that and knocked the fires down but we are not out of the woods yet.

Are many folks utilizing the fairground for evacuation of their livestock and horses?

Knezovich :We have some if it gets more into the populated areas we project there will be a lot more

Any reports of crop and livestock loss?

Knezovich: I think it’s too early, too early to make that assessment because we really can ‘t get into those areas.

Thank you Ozzie, please know we are praying for the Spokane Valley as they deal with these devastating fires.
