Chlorpyrifos and State Attorney General

I'm Bob Larson. Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson has joined with AG's from five other East Coast states in a lawsuit against the EPA to prevent the use of chlorpyrifos, the nation's most widely used insecticide, that some believe is harmful to human health.

Washington Friends of Farms and Forest's Heather Hansen says her group is disappointed in this action ...

HEATHER HANSEN ... "We think it misses the bigger scientific picture. We absolutely agree with the Attorney General that it's important to protect Washington citizens and all citizens, but we think this is the wrong approach. EPA denied the activist's petition because they could not provide the documentation needed to act on it. The law is very clear about the process the EPA must use to regulate pesticide and in this case, the science does not support further regulations."

Hansen questions Ferguson's research after he made the claim that President Trump's EPA is simply ignoring science ...

HEATHER HANSEN ... "The allegations are largely based on one study and the results of that study are very much in question. Other researchers have raised concerns about the methodology and the conclusions reached. And, conversely to that study, there are more than 4,000 other studies that have been evaluated by regulatory agencies in a hundred different countries around the world and they have all approved chlorpyrifos for use."

Hansen says the most recent studies have found nothing new or surprising about the use of chlorpyrifos.

Listen tomorrow for more on recent studies and how the entire argument appears to be politically motivated.
