Beef Counts

I'm Bob Larson. Washington's Beef Community United Against Hunger put out the call in Spokane recently ...

SAM ELLIOTT ... "Beef, it's what's for dinner."

No, Sam Elliott wasn't there, but 325 families were served in what's become a statewide effort to raise funds for the Beef Counts program.

Rancher Bill McLean serves on the Washington State Beef Commission Board ...

BILL MCLEAN ... "We're passing out beef through the Beef Counts Program to people in need. And, we're proud and glad to share with people that have less means and need our help a little bit. It's a great event. This is the second year I've been to it. We help a lot of people."

McLean says it's a great experience ...

BILL MCLEAN ... "Just helping the people and meeting new faces and just being out and being helpful to people that need some things."

McLean says Beef Counts started in 2010, with matching funds coming from AgriBeef Company, and has raised over $710,000 ...

BILL MCLEAN ... "We are charged with promoting the beef product and with partnerships with the industry, with the retailers like Rosauers. Last winter we surpassed one million beef servings to people in need and we're making a difference in these people's lives."

A promotion with Rosauers/Super One and KREM 2 runs from late May until early September, and puts 10 cents of every pound of Double R Ranch beef sold towards the Beef Counts program.
