I’m Bob Larson. Worried about getting the 2018 Farm Bill done on time? There may be reasons for your skepticism. Word trickling out of the nation’s capital is that it may not be completed until perhaps 2019.

Representative Dan Newhouse says he hears the talk, and there’s plenty of it, but he remains optimistic …

DAN NEWHOUSE … “I do know that that rumor is out there. I’ve not been able to substantiate that. In conversations that I’ve had with the Chairman of the House Ag Committee, he is determined to have a Farm Bill done on time. It’s a big lift, I will admit that. There’s a lot of aspects to that. I wasn’t here for the last one, but it was not an easy thing to accomplish.”

The Sunnyside Republican says there are no guarantees, but from the Ag Chairman on down, everything possible is being done to get the Farm Bill finished on time …

DAN NEWHOUSE … “But, Chairman Conaway, like I said, is determined. He’s already started the process. This whole 2017, he’s been preparing for the new Farm Bill in several ways, holding hearings on different aspects, different titles. So, I’m not ready to concede that it won’t happen this year. Like I said, this is a rumor, but one that I’ve not been able to substantiate.”

Heading into the final weeks of the year, the Farm Bill remains a top priority, along with the GOP Tax Bill, and the renegotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and Mexico.

The current Farm Bill runs through September of next year.
