I'm Bob Larson. The Potato Expo in Orlando, Florida was the ultimate gathering of folks from every facet of the growing industry. Bayer Ag Sciences was there, in part, to share their 'Grow On' campaign to teach growers how to best tell their own story.

Bayer's Monte Sorensen says the campaign has been well received ...

MONTE SORENSEN ... "Really well! We were at a meeting in December out in Washington with some growers, and they really appreciated that we were moving forward and giving them talking points so that they can communicate clearly and easily what the benefits are specifically of some of our products. Back and forth: When you say Washington, which Washington are we talking about? ... Sorry, Washington state! ... Very good ... yeah ... people will love to hear that ... Absolutely!"

I asked Sorensen if this a response to those who use the press to spread negative agendas ...

MONTE SORENSEN ... "Part of what we're trying to do, I think in the past, agriculture as a whole, we've allowed other people to tell our story for us and I think this is a pro-active approach for us to enable Bayer as well as our growers to tell the story themselves. And, the feedback that we've received is, 'I want to, but I don't necessarily know what to say or how to say it succinctly.' So, this is our way to reach out and really partner with our growers and say, 'here are a couple of things that you can say when you're asked to help tell your story."

Sorensen says Bayer wants to help farmers Grow On by identifying, applying and communicating sustainable farm practices.
