A Colorado Springs Company is getting attention from the Secretary of Agriculture for working to reduce food waste and feed people in need.

Secretary of Ag Sonny Perdue recently visited FoodMaven a for profit business that says it sells quality local, oversupplied and imperfect food from distributors, manufacturers and producers to restaurants and institutional kitchens at a significant discount.

" I love the entrepreneurial aspect, I like frankly the for profit because there is nothing more incentivising than the economic reality."

Perdue's agency has announced a plan to replace a portion of millions of food stamp recipients' benefits with a pre-assembled package of shelf-stable goods dubbed "America's Harvest Box." He says FoodMaven could help make those.

Secretary Perdue is making stops around the nation to talk with farmers and producers about their concerns.

In his current tour, he's making stops in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska.
